I wanted this game to be about the feeling of having an effect on the world just through the way you treat others and the advice you give them.

Responsibilities :

  • Game Design : There are different variables in the game that represent aspects of the town. These variables changed through advice given to the townspeople (eg. encouraging a woodcutter +1 industry). I came up with a system that would allow us to change elements of the town each day-night cycle as the players give advice. This also allows the players to arrive at endings where there’s a conflux of different variables + individual character outcomes, rather than a fixed number of endings.

  • Coding : Implementation of the day-night cycle. Prototyping design concepts. Final implementation of about half the game. Implementation of flocking (Boid-based) AI.

  • Narrative : Helping write many characters quickly who would need varied & interesting advice that would mostly change the same set of variables.

  • Animation : Timeline animations. Implementation of character animations and transitions.

  • Project Management : Made sure everyone had meaningful tasks that alligned with their skillset, kept documentation updated and scope in check.

I organized the trello into sections with tags for completion so it would be easier for the whole team to use. (Opposed to the traditional To Do, Doing, and Done categories).
